Dave can Fix it Handyman Services
This contract was made in collaboration between the UWA Comic Book Contracting team and Alternative Contracting for a local Perth handyman. It has been designed to show the values and expectations of the service to build positive client relationships between Dave and his customers. It clearly illustrates the terms and conditions for Dave’s work in a friendly and inclusive way.
This is a great example that shows how simple visual contracting can be – it’s one page (you’re seeing the entire contract!), took less than 2 weeks to make, and was done on a shoestring budget. It features prominently on the business’ Facebook page and is a great alternative to the typical “fine print” found on a work invoice.
Aurecon Visual Employment Contract
This image is drawn from a larger visual contracting project, the Aurecon Visual Employment Contract. This was a collaboration between Aurecon and the UWA Comic Book Contracts team. Every new Aurecon employee now completes a version of this contract that is fully interactive, immersive, and personal.
This project tackles a major problem with traditional employment contracts: they are typically difficult to understand, full of jargon, and written for lawyers. It is no surprise that new employees often avoid reading their contracts at all and miss out on understanding their rights and responsibilities as workers. Aurecon explains these issues in this video.
This is a great example of values-based contracting. First and foremost, Aurecon values innovation, and when they realised the issues with their traditional, text-based employment contract, sought an innovative approach to the problem. The contract itself is further built on Aurecon’s values as shown above, particularly:
- Making the complex simple
- Being playful with serious intent
This contract is simple, succinct, and easy to understand, and discusses serious concepts while being friendly at the same time, showcasing the playful yet professional approach that Aurecon wants its employees to embody. All prospective employees are clearly communicated the nature of the team spirit before they begin. Aurecon and its staff members are represented by different characters; the “Aurecon” character can be seen in the above example.
Aurecon notes that the contract was extensively tested and refined, eliminating more than 5,000 words.
